Prerequisites for Doctor of Engineering in Manufacturing: top
  • Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a relevant masters degree (e.g., masters in engineering or business).

  • Have at least one degree (BS or MS) in engineering. (Exceptions to this requirement must be approved by the PIM council.)

  • Have at least two (2) years of full-time relevant industrial experience.

  • Submit their scores for the general portion of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).

    Applications are accepted for both the Fall and Winter terms.

  • Thre is no financial aid available for Manufacturing Engineering. Students are encouraged to secure financial aid through national fellowship programs, company employee education programs, etc. For more information, please refer to the University of Michigan Financial Aid web site: http://www.finaid.umich.edu.

  • TOEFL scores are sent via tape directly to the University of Michigan (Institution code: 1839). Official ECPE, IELTS and MELAB scores must be sent directly to InterPro-Manufacturing Engineering (address listed above).
GRE Requirements for top
  • The GRE is required for the Doctor of Engineering in Manufacturing. For test score identification, the Institution code for the University of Michigan is 1839.

    GRE Quantitative portion should be 700 or above, the GRE Analytical Writing portion should be between 4 - 6.

English Proficiency Test top
  • Applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate English proficiency. Applicants are required to provide an official score report from either the Michigan English Language Battery (MELAB), the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing Systems (IELTS), or the Examination for the Michigan Certificate of Proficiency in English (ECPE). Photocopies and/or faxes of IELTS, TOEFL, or ECPE scores will not be accepted. The College of Engineering requires the following minimum requirements for admission consideration (some programs of study may have higher minimum score requirements):

Applicants who are required, as a condition of admission, to have their English re-evaluated by taking the Academic English Evaluation (AEE) cannot register for academic courses until the evaluation is complete. You should arrive in Ann Arbor in plenty of time to have the re-evaluation completed before classes begin.

Applicants who have earned a degree from an institution where the language of instruction is exclusively English, (i.e. U.S., United Kingdom, Australia) are exempt from submitting a MELAB, TOEFL, IELTS, or ECPE score

  • A statement of purpose must be submitted when completing your online application. The statement should be about one page and should be concise, well-written essay about your background, your career goals and how the Manufacturing Engineering Program will help you attain your career and educational objectives.   • A Resume must be submitted when you are completing your online application.
Transcript/s top
  • For Domestic applicants and International applicants, have two sets of your sealed Official Undergraduate/Graduate Transcript/s mailed to the InterPro - Manufacturing Address listed above.

    In order to be considered offiical, all academic records, transcripts must bear a seal and signature in ink of an authorized official of the instition (such as the Registrar or Recorder of Records). Official documents must be provided from the Institution awarding the degree. Academic records certified by notary of publics are not official.
Letters of Recommendation top

Three letters of recommendation are required for the Doctor of Engineering in Manufacturing program. When Applicants are completing their online application, they can find instructions for recommenders to submit the Letters of Recommendation by email.

  • At least one recommendation must be from an employer and
  • if you have been graduated three or fewer years, you must submit at least one letter of recommendation from a former professor.
