Sections top

The entire B-School is divided into 6 sections for the day program. Each section generally has all core classes at the same time. For example Section 1 students will all have Marketing, Accounting, Finance, etc. at the same time. It is important that a InterPro student attempts to schedule all of his/her Business School classes in the same section (during both semesters). It is much easier to get to know other students and form groups. Much of the casework requires students to work in teams to effectively accomplish the assignments.

The B-School also offers students the possibility to attend classes offered in the MBA evening program. The MBA Evening program is divided into 2 campuses. Classes are offered either at the Ann Arbor or Commerce Park Dearborn. Students may choose to attend either campus. Class location is listed in the Schedule of classes at
http://www.umich.edu/~retgoff/timesched/.

The First Day and Course Packs top

Students can only purchase Course packs and Textbooks after registering for class. The Course Pack will detail requirements for assignments. The assignment for first day of class should be prepared before class, however, because InterPro students are not business school students and may only be able to register after the first day of classes, you may not be able to purchase course packs ahead of time. Course packs may be borrowed from the Ross School of Business library until you are able to purchase them. Course packs may be purchased online and you will get the appropriate lind from the class website. Textbooks can be purchased at campus bookstores.

Preparing for Classes top

Generally, assignments are expected to be completed before the class period in which the material is discussed in detail. In other words, the homework must be completed before the concepts are taught in class. Group work is encouraged, not only in preparation of the assignment, but also in discussion of the topics.

Cases top

Most of the assignments come in the form of cases. When preparing cases, they should be as professional as possible (i.e. typed, organized, thorough). This is especially true when professors expect the work to be handed in or presented in class. If you have any questions regarding case preparation, do not hesitate to ask other students or the professor.

Cold Calls top

Some professors will call on students to answer questions. This is normally included as part of the class participation grade that most professors assign. Typical questions will be: a) to summarize the assigned core; b) to present your case solution; start class discussion regarding the case; or c) to answer specific questions. Do not hesitate to get involved in class discussion, this is part of the learning process and part of your grade!

Name/Face Cards top

The InterPro office prepares two name cards and two face cards for each new student. To prepare the face card, the student must supply the InterPro office with a picture of himself /herself. If you need more name cards or face cards prepared, contact Gail Carr at gailcarr@umich.edu or at (734) 763-0480.

There is a great deal of student-student & student-professor interaction in the B-School. Every student should have a name card from the InterPro office. It is simply a sheet of cardboard with your name on it so that others can identify you by name. You should bring it and display it during each class. If you forget it, write your name on a sheet of paper instead. You are more likely to get called on if you do not have a name card displayed.

A face card contains your picture as well as information on your past work experience and undergraduate education. Professors use these to "get to know" their students. The InterPro office can create these for you. You should turn one into the professor within the first few weeks of class. To some professors this is important; however, some do not use them at all.

Computer Access at the B-School top

InterPro students should have access to B-School computing facilities. InterPro students are required to pay a lab fee.
