About InterPro

A Message from the Dean
By Professor Stella W. Pang
Associate Dean for Graduate Education
University of Michigan, College of Engineering

Interdisciplinary Professional Programs (InterPro) is a unit within the College of Engineering and it is jointly run by faculty from a number of disciplines. InterPro supports a number of interdisciplinary, professional programs including the Automotive Engineering Program, the Financial Engineering Program, the Integrated Microsystems Program, the Pharmaceutical Engineering Program, and Manufacturing Engineering (including the Program in Manufacturing and MEM-TMI). The InterPro programs offer exciting possibilities for students interested in building expertise in a broad range of emerging and expanding industries.

Each program maintains its governance structure such as faculty councils and external advisory boards. But administratively, they share staff and space and report to the Associate Dean for Graduate Education through a single Managing Director. The InterPro Directors includes Professor Huei Peng for Automotive Engineering, Professor Stephen Pollock for Financial Engineering, Professor Yogesh Gianchandani for Integrated Microsystems, Professor Yavuz A. Bozer for MEM-TMI, Professor Henry Wang for Pharmaceutical Engineering, and Professor S. Jack Hu for Program in Manufacturing.

Besides administrative efficiency, InterPro allows a community of interdisciplinary, professional graduate students to develop, enhance sharing of best practices among the programs, and enhance cultivation of new programs in areas of interest. More than 350 students are currently pursuing the Master of Engineering, Master of Science, Doctor of Engineering, or joint Master of Engineering/MBA degrees in the six programs administered by InterPro.

We look forward to seeing each program continue to flourish within the InterPro structure.
